The problem
Legionella is everywhere in hot water
The Legionella pneumophila bacterium proliferates in hot water systems between 25 °C and 50 °C. Hospitals, hotels, residential buildings and industrial facilities are constantly at risk.
- Rapid proliferation in pipes between 25 °C and 50 °C
- Transmission by inhaling contaminated aerosols (showers, fountains)
- A regulatory obligation to monitor and treat
- High risk in healthcare, hospitality and sports facilities

- 20–25 °C — Survival
- 25–50 °C — Danger: optimal proliferation
- Above 60 °C — Progressive inactivation
- Above 70 °C — Eliminated within minutes
With Sicursan, chemical treatment is continuous, protecting the entire system.
The solution
ECA technology: advanced electrolysis
ECA produces stable hypochlorous acid directly from water and salt, without hazardous chemical additives.
On-site electrolysis
The Kirkmayer generator electrolyses a saline solution, producing HOCl at 500 ppm on site. The solution is then dosed automatically into the water system.
HOCl, the natural disinfectant
Hypochlorous acid is produced naturally by the immune system. It is highly bactericidal and breaks down into water and salt.
Continuous automatic dosing
The system monitors and maintains the active HOCl concentration around the clock, adapting to consumption.
Protection of the entire system
Sicursan is dosed continuously into the circulating water, protecting every active point of the system. As with any chemical treatment, efficacy depends on water flow — good system design remains essential to minimise dead legs.
Regulatory compliance
Regulated under the EU Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR, ECHA) and approved in Spain, Poland, France, Scandinavia, Germany and the UK.
Sustainable
Drastically reduces the use of traditional chemical biocides. HOCl breaks down without toxic residues.
How it works
Simple installation, continuous protection
- 01
System analysis
A technical survey maps the system, identifies the risk areas and sizes the generator correctly.
- 02
Generator installation
The Kirkmayer generator is installed on the hot water supply line in a few hours.
- 03
Activation and dosing
The system starts automatically, dosing HOCl continuously according to the set parameters.
- 04
Monitoring and reporting
Parameters are recorded continuously, with periodic reports for compliance documentation and health authority inspections.

Advantages
Why choose Sicursan
Bactericidal, fungicidal and virucidal
Tested to EN 1276 (PCA AB 815) and EN 17272 (PCA AB 103) by accredited laboratories: a reduction of more than 5 log (over 99.999%) of Legionella pneumophila, and activity against 10 bacterial pathogens, Candida albicans and Modified Vaccinia Virus.
Lower operating costs
No external biocides: the only consumable is salt. Maintenance is minimal and largely automatic.
Safety for operators and users
No chlorine to handle. HOCl is safe even in contact with skin and mucous membranes.
Fits existing systems
Installs on any existing hot water system without structural changes. Compatible with steel, copper and PVC.
Traceability and compliance
The system records every operating parameter, simplifying Legionella risk-assessment reports and health inspections.
Scalable and modular
From 10 L/h to over 2,000 L/h: from small buildings to large hospital and industrial complexes.
Applications
Ideal for every setting

Healthcare facilities
Hospitals, clinics and nursing homes, where the risk for immunocompromised patients is highest.

Hotels
Hotels and resorts with many hot water outlets and a high turnover of guests.

Residential buildings
Apartment buildings and residential complexes with centralised hot water systems.

Industry
Food plants and industrial facilities that need microbiologically pure water.

Fogging tests (EN 17272, EN 1727) were performed in a closed 30 m³ chamber, at a dosage of 11.5 ml/m³ with 60 minutes' contact time. Kirkmayer is approved by ECHA as an active substance supplier — active chlorine released from hypochlorous acid — under Article 95 of Regulation (EU) 528/2012.
